Have you heard the term: “I hit rock bottom”
Its used regularly by people who have experienced hardship in their lives and its used as a term to describe how that hardship made them feel.
But what does hitting rock bottom actually mean? How does it feel to hit rock bottom. Depending on the kind of person you are, your rock bottom may not feel like rock bottom to someone who may be worse off. Infact your rock bottom may feel like a recovery to that person. Depending on the kind of person you are and your emotional needs, your ability to bounce back back will either be a long journey or a quick transition.
So when would a person feel like they have “hit rock bottom”?
Any negative situation has the potential to change a persons life and cause a big impact. Divorce, the loss of a loved one, financial loss, depression, illness…the list is endless.
How does it feel to “hit rock bottom”? For some it feels like the ground has been taken away from underneath you. You feel a lack of stability. For others it feels like being a in a deep dark hole with no way out. For some it feels literally like it sounds, like you hit the rock bottom of a deep ocean unable to breath and no way to the surface. We can construct all sorts of images in our minds and its a scary place to be in.
Situations in life will make you feel this way but there is hope. There is light. there is a future. Life can move on. Time can heal. You can smile again.
If you feel like you have “hit rock bottom” you can find your way up again. The only way from that place is back up again. If you feel you have hit that place, tell yourself you can only come back up now. After all, its impossible to sink further from the bottom! The thing to remember is that you have reached the limit of your situation and now you must come back up. Its down to you however when you want to start that journey back up again. Once you start that journey one small step at a time, you will find yourself well on the road to recovery again.
