Action is one of the biggest change-makers possible. Taking new actions, both large and small, has a major creative power that ripples throughout your life. But not all actions are positive or effective. How do you empower your actions? How do you truly create what you want, in any area of your life, through action? Let’s look at some important reminders:
Why Take Action?
Usually people think that taking action is primarily to change the outer circumstances of their life. While sometimes that’s true, one of the strongest reasons to take action is to dissolve inner doubt.
Outer actions support inner change.
And how do you create inner change? Here’s a formula I like to remember:
Intention + Action + Non-attachment to Outcome = Total Success Inside & Out
And what is Non-attachment to outcome? It’s Presence. It’s enjoying the ride and taking time to fully appreciate the beauty of the step you are on NOW.
This means: Take action for the joy of taking action!
At one time in my life I decided I wanted to make more friends. I have a shy side, so I resolved to counter it by striking up conversations with strangers while out and about. I just went for it! I started talking to random people, asking how their day was going, saying Hi, etc.
If you are shy, doing this is not easy. It is a stretch. But it’s a good stretch! It’s empowering, so whether I made a new friend or not, did not matter. It just felt good taking the new actions.
When you resolve to go in a new direction, feel the joy of it, feel the fullness of your body and the energy of taking a new action!
Is there a goal you are moving toward? Take action to achieve your goal, but don’t take action for the sole purpose of getting outer results or getting to the future. Let your actions transform your INNER REALM. Let action remove your doubts and uplift your mood. That is the key. Go for the inner results.
Action Taken with Joy Sets the Law of Attraction in Motion
Joyful actions create a path of opportunity, inside and outside. When your motivation for an action is to change your inner realm or improve your emotional state, you empower the Universe to bring you your goal. It is as if the Universe smiles at you for simply enjoying the ride, and then it reflects that joy back to you with outer results.
Action and Intention: The Unstoppable Team
The other necessary ingredient is Intention. Pure intention is the muscle to the “skeleton” of action. It’s the force that catalyzes action.
“The idea of intention is that you are putting, in a sense, a commitment in this energy; a commitment to be yourself, a full commitment. This is what intention really is. It’s the vibration of the full commitment to be your true self. “ ~Bashar/Darryl Anka
“Action is thought in physical motion, outwardly perceived.” ~Seth/Jane Roberts
Action and Intention feed off of each other. If all you did was sit in your room all day “intending”, your feelings may change but the outer circumstances of your life probably won’t. Likewise, if all you did was take action, without pure intention, intuition or clarity, your efforts are likely to be sabotaged. Your fears and doubts will likely stop you from achieving what you want one way or another.
However, when intention and action are in alignment, you become a force to be reckoned with. To do that you just have to be YOU.
There is a power and simplicity to this entire message here. It is summed up well in this quote:
“You cannot do yoga. Yoga is your natural state. What you can do are yoga exercises, which may reveal to you where you are resisting your natural state.” ~Sharon Gannon
It’s the same with any action, not just yoga. You have to realize the importance of just being You while taking action.
Just take a deep breath…
You don’t have to fully understand all this. Something in you Knows. Your Heart knows.
It’s quality that matters. Take quality actions. Change will naturally commence.
One quality action, done with full energy, Heart and Presence, can often do more good than a bunch of “low-quality” actions.
At the end of a day when I have done a few things really well (answered emails, made some calls, did some de-cluttering, did some creative work, etc) I inevitably feel much more productive than on days when I rushed and ran around trying to get a million things done.
Go for quality actions. The results will come.
Exercise: Discovering Juicy Actions
Five minutes with this exercise can have a positive impact, ten minutes can open a major door, 20 minutes a day for two weeks can sometimes create magical results.
Step one: Think of a goal that you have, any goal little or big.
Step two: Take 30 seconds to brainstorm possible actions to help achieve this goal.
Think of as many as you can. List them all: Obvious actions, practical actions, actions that have a good chance of helping, and actions that have a slim chance of helping! Rattle them off quickly like you’re on a game show! Come on, go for it! Right now! Jot them down.
Step three: If you did not do this in Step Two, think of “symbolic actions” to take toward your goal.
A symbolic action is when you “Act as If” something is true when it’s not quite true yet. For example, suppose you want a Rolls Royce but you actually have an old Pontiac. A symbolic action would be to treat your Pontiac as if it were a Rolls. Waxing it, driving it carefully, Etc… A few more examples: Acting as if you’re totally healthy when you really have a bad cold. Acting as if you’re totally confident, when inside you’re trembling in your boots. Telling people that you’ve finished your book when in reality you’re not quite done.
Symbolic action (Acting As If) can be extremely powerful for changing our lives and strengthening our resolve. These actions tell ourselves and the Universe that we mean business when it comes to achieving our goals! So be sure to take 30 seconds to think of some Act as If actions.
Step four: When you’ve listed all possibilities, go over each action one by one. See if you can get a feel for each road not yet traveled. Don’t try to predict specific outcomes, just see if you can feel the degree of “juice” you have for each action. How energized are you about taking each of these actions? Feel where there is juice and where there is not. Let that juice be your guide over the coming days.
Step five: Intend to follow your Heart and take action over the next five days.
Some Final Reminders on Taking Action
Step into the flow of your life. Take action as needed, but do not over do it.
Be humble with your actions…
Let your body be moved.
Let your body “be breathed.”
Let yourself “be walked” by Spirit…
Keep it simple. Let Spirit Take action with you as its Vehicle.
Work passionately and take breaks often. Trust the Universe to support your endeavors.
“Do nothing, but don’t be lazy.” ~Robert Young
Have drive, but don’t be driven.
More opportunities are becoming available to you.
