Ground Control for The Busy Lightworker by Phoenix Ravenspirit 

Have you ever experienced one of those days, weeks or even months, when you feel like you’re being tossed around on a stormy sea, only to be ejected from the ship then you find yourself hanging from the edge of a cliff? Finally, you take a daring free fall, thinking you’ll land on the beach, yet instead find yourself in the seat of a roller coaster, on a breathtaking, wild ride? If you’ve ever had this kind of sensation, rest assured that you’re not alone!

Turbulent, chaotic energies can often leave us feeling this way, as we clear out those old patterns that no longer serve us and welcome new ones. And the good news is that we have tools and resources to help us feel more grounded and centred, as we venture along our spiritual path.




Earthing is a term that simply refers to the practice of having your bare skin touch the Earth.

Every living being needs the Earth for balance and energy harmonization. Earthing allows millions of electrons to be soaked into our blood cells, filling them with enormous healing power. Earthing also allows the body to discharge other harmful free radicals.

For Earthing to be most beneficial, one has to spend time barefoot, in direct contact with the Earth, for several hours a day. The soles of the feet are the best part of the body to conduct electricity, so remove your shoes and socks for two or three hours each day and walk outdoors, especially over wet or freshly moist grass, sand or rocky surfaces. If there’s a beach nearby, you can take regular walks in the moist sand.




Here’s a simple mudra to help you focus on the present moment and bring about a feeling of balance and being truly centred. The key is to focus purely on your breath.

Begin by assuming a comfortable seated position. The straighter your spine is, the better. Clear your mind and maintain your focus by pressing the thumb of your right hand with the index or small finger of your right hand. At the same time, press your left thumb and index finger together. You may rest the top of your hands on your knees or wherever is most comfortable for you, while holding the mudra in a palms-up position.

Breathe in and out, deeply and slowly three times, while releasing all your worries of the day. Keep your eyes closed and allow your facial and neck muscles to fully relax. If you’re too wound up, it may take a few more breaths before you really start to relax. Take all the time you need.

Next practice is to press your right thumb and ring finger together, while doing the same with your left thumb and ring finger. This time, as you take three deep breaths in and out, relax the muscles in your shoulders, back, arms and chest. Take at least two extra breaths, as you work on opening your heart centre. This can be achieved by attaining a sense of gratitude for all things present in your life and by means of unconditional love.

Breathe in and out three times deeply, as you press your right thumb and middle finger together, as well as your left thumb and middle finger. When you press your fingers together, it should be with a light touch. As you breathe in and out, relax the muscles in your lower back and abdomen. Feel a sense of complete abandon and relaxation. If at any time you need to take more breaths in order to go deeper, then by all means, do so.

Next, place your right index finger against your thumb and do the same with your left thumb and pointer finger. This time, allow your legs to feel release, from your thighs to the tips of your toes. You should now be fully relaxed and in a comfortable seated position. Finally, find a comfortable position for your hands, doing whatever comes naturally to you. Take several long, deep breaths in and out, as you go deeper into relaxation.



Smudging can be used for an individual, room or object. The process simply involves using the intention of removing negative or unwanted energies that may be held within that person, room or thing. Intention is the key, so this is what you have to clear and cleanse and intention will be your most valuable asset with regards to smudging. Just as we shower to cleanse our physical body, smudging is designed to help cleanse more etheric, auric and unseen levels. Many different things can be employed to smudge negative or unwanted energy. You can use a sage smudge stick, incense, feathers, leaves, crystal, even a musical instrument, it’s really up to you. You don’t have to use something that produces smoke. The intention is the most important ingredient, not what you use for the smudging. Whatever tool you decide to use, hold it in your hand, then when you are ready move that tool (or the smoke) over your aura, take a nice deep breath, sweeping it through and intending all unwanted and negative energy to leave immediately.

So next time you feel clogged up with unwanted energy, or when a room in your home or office feels flat or an old ornament feels strange, grab your smudging tool and have a good energetic clean out. Have clear intentions and know that what you are doing is productive not only for you, but for people around you.

Tea Rituals



Tea rituals are about relationships. These include the relationship of the tea server with the tea, the environment, the tea ware, any guests that may be present, and to oneself. This is not a process that should be rushed, but rather an experience that should be consciously savoured in a sacred manner. It is this consciousness and intent that brings about calm, peace and balance, along with a feeling of being truly centred.

Recipe for Chakra Balancing Tea (makes 7 cups)


1tsp Red Clover petals – Root Chakra

1tsp Calendula petals – Sacral Chakra

1tsp Marshmallow petals – Solar Plexus

1tsp Chamomile flowers – Throat Chakra

1tsp Eyebright leaves – Brow Chakra

1tsp Lavender buds – Crown Chakra

All the above ingredients may be purchased from a professional herbalist.


Shake all ingredients in a container to blend and mix.

Steep 1tsp of the blend for a few minutes per cup, for a wonderful, soothing, and delicate floral tea experience.

Crystals are well known for their healing properties and can certainly assist in grounding. You might like to use crystals alone or in conjunction with any of the above techniques. Some crystals that offer are ideal for grounding include obsidian, smoky quartz, black tourmaline or black kyanite.
