A commonly accepted meaning is: Light workers are those who volunteered, before birth, to help the planet and its population heal from the effects of fear by bringing positive energy and messages of love that transform reality. Each light worker is here for a sacred purpose.

Very often, however, life on earth with its material focus creates a form of amnesia. Light workers often forget their divine origin and perfect identities. They forget their abilities to miraculously help the earth and all living creatures. When light workers forget their true identity and purpose, they feel lost and afraid.

Lightworker Magazine Cover

I remember when I first started getting accustomed to the idea of being a Lightworker.  Curled up with Doreen Virtue’s book, The Lightworker’s Way, I read through a list of attributes that characterize lightworkers and came across the very last one: “you know that you are here for a higher purpose, even if you are unsure what it is or how to fulfill it.”  Wow.  There was a group of people out there that even hesitant, confused, well-meaning souls like mine could identify with!

Since that light bulb (pardon the pun!) went off, the synchronicities in my world have been popping up everywhere and picking up speed.  It seems that knowing a bit more about what you are, and having a name for it – lightworker – makes a world of difference in helping you find that higher purpose.  You can imagine my excitement when back in January 2010, I came across Lightworker Magazine – yes, a free, online magazine dedicated to our group of shiny happy people!  Not only was it a fabulous read, but it was also brand new, further fueling my excitement that more of us out there were becoming aware of our inner spark.

It didn’t take long for me to get in touch with the editor, and by the time the March issue came out, I had my own monthly column – Studying at the University of Life – where I could share the wacky lessons I encounter each day.  Each month though, the excitement surrounding this great mag keeps growing with cool articles, amazing writers, and now – face-to-face events being held in cities the world over!

Each month, Focus the Light discussion groups are taking place and all lightworkers are invited to join the fun! The concept is simple – by gathering like-minded people and using thought, discussion and intention, we create a wonderful new wave of energy that will shine even more light into the world. Each of us is filled with insights that are just itching to get out there, and Focus the Light discussion groups help us share those nuggets of wisdom with our peers and beyond.

A different topic is presented each month and explored by discussing three questions to help us get deep into the core of the subject at hand.   A few short meditations are included as well to ground all this wonderful, newly created energy into reality.  And when the next issue of Lightworker Magazine comes out, you can look forward to reading about the highlights of not only your group, but all other groups meeting around the world!

So whether you join me in Toronto or find a Focus the Light group in another city, I’m excited that we have this opportunity to connect and shine even more love and goodness out into the world!

There is a new breed of human that is populating our species. We have been around for centuries, and again we are called. We are the same as everyone, and yet we are different. We have always recognized our uniqueness, and yet it is now that the lightworkers awaken.

It is not religious belief that defines light work; in fact there are many who create darkness in the name of their religion. Lightworkers do not all pray to the same god; in fact some pray to many gods while others pray to none. Light work involves faith beyond religion.

On the surface, light work is indicative of various human emotions and behaviours. Compassion, generosity, kindness, and nurturing are all ultimately the result of love. The lightworker helps rather than hinders, heals instead of harms. In fact, many lightworkers are already healers and many are women

The way of the lightworker is not easy, and yet it is through lightworkers that humanity realizes it’s greatest hope. The lightworker has two goals: to bring light where there is dark and to continually improve one’s self. As self becomes stronger and more balanced, the ability to carry the light is strengthened.

There are many things that are not defined for lightworkers. For example, though I carry certain moral and ethical beliefs, there are others whose beliefs are just as valid. There are also those who allow their moral beliefs to bring darkness into the world. Therefore, moral belief alone cannot be the measurement of lightwork.

The world is changing, and there is a lot going on. In every corner of the globe there are lightworkers holding their balance and helping others move in a positive direction. Lightworkers bring love wherever they go, and their resonance has influence beyond their comprehension. Stand forth and carry the light! The world can be changed, and it begins with you.

Holistic Dad Tries To Expand His Boys' Minds

Can you relate? I pick up my boys from their Mother’s home and they hop in the van, drop their things all over the vehicle and (with the precision and speed of fighter pilots) swiftly and adroitly tap something into their iPods, PSPs or cell phones.  Once again, my boys are lost in the world of digital blips and bleeps.

Sometimes it makes me wonder if humanity will evolve into the cyborg-like hybrids known as “the Borg” in the T.V. Star Trek shows where electronic gadgetry melds into their very flesh.

And I really wonder what it does to my relationship with them. It is bad enough that we live in a world of “new blended families” where I only see them a few times a week at best, but to have that time conscripted by little lighted boxes…

Oh I hear what you are saying, “well, just tell them to put it down!”, as if it were just that easy. You see, I’m a Dad and a guy.  And Dad’s like gadgets too! And guy’s especially like to play with gadgets when they need to unwind and shut out the world. Like after a long day at work…or, for them, two pre-adolescent brains overtaxed by the “non-holistic” demands of the modern day school systems….

Well, after they have been in school all day, I get the attraction and the function of needing to shut out the outside stimulus and focus on something totally and completely distracting (and otherwise, meaningless). It’s a guy thing, and it’s akin to the caveman hiding out in his cave until he felt like he could come and sit around the fire again.

Most women find this very confusing and puzzling, but guys need to be quiet and alone in order to regain their energy, whereas women, need to talk and be social. Quite the trick the Creator pulled there, eh?

So what’s a Dad to do? 

“Counter attack the status quo when you can” is my motto. That is, I don’t think fighting the battle when they are too tired to pay attention helps… and, since I too am rather worn from a day at the office…well, I allow the blips and bleeps to exist as part of the mix. But then, just when they least expect it (well not really but that sounds more dramatic), I take them to one of my holistic activities.

I am a new age spiritual kind of guy. (No, not a modern-day, hippie-wearing-flowered-pattern-shirts-and-beads-dude, but I feel very strongly that the world they grow up in is out of balance). I make an effort to buck the trend and introduce them to alternative world views if I can. A few years ago when my youngest boy was about six, I had him and his older brother do a shamanic ceremony (complete with a holy man from Ecuador, smoke and chanting) to welcome in the new year–they were quite intrigued. My youngest even saw some visions.

The modern world of electronics and shopping malls would hide these things from them. I believe it helps them to open their hearts, and not just walk in a world of mental stimulation and constant distractions. There was a simpler way of life just a few short 100 years ago in our culture, and it is my hope that I can awaken that kind of world in them. Though for certain, most of their Dad’s friends from class would find such things very strange.

Next week, I am taking them to a wonderful event that will have channeled music and some chanting. It will even include a group mediation and some inspired words channeled from a woman who shares the messages of the angels. You can’t get more holistic and “new-agey” than that. The thing is, it really is undeniable that it melts your heart just to be in the same room with these individuals as they share their gifts (and the gifts of spirit) with the audience.

And that is a message I really want my boys to be exposed to: that each of us has a unique and specific talent, and that talent, no matter what it is, is there to be shared with one other, to uplift and inspire one other from the heart – to being better and more whole than we were before we came together. That’s “holistic” for me.

What is a Light Worker?

Lightworkers coming together and joining forces is something that’s been starting to happen all over the globe… faster and faster… lightworker communities are forming everywhere with the intention of helping heal the world.
