Abundance & Spirituality

Abundance as described by many would mean plentiful or riches & Spirituality would mean to live in the spirit or to be inclined towards a religious attitude towards life. What my observance has been that most people when on a spiritual path shun abundance. They think that to be blessed with abundance would hinder their spiritual progress. I for one totally disagree with this concept. Others may have their own opinion & you’re most welcome to express it. Excessive desire for riches & things which you cannot have leads to misery I agree. Excessive hoarding of wealth or the pursuit of wealth alone & not of enjoying it or the simple things in life too leads to illness & depression. Recently I had a deeply spiritual person living a lay life state that she doesn’t want any money, which I felt according to the law of attraction was that of a miserable attitude towards life. To deny abundance in your life is to block all avenues of progress. And this got me thinking of this topic on when to draw the line on spirituality or how to strike a balance with the two aspects in your life. How do we know our designated role in life or in this world, what if our role was to make money in order to do good with it to others, like a role of a philanthropist? If all the people in the world shun abundance from their life to pursue spirituality who would feed the hungry & heal the sick? I know some of you may think this is contradictory to what I always write about leading a spiritual life & making life simple. It should be so but never say no to abundance or to money like the spiritual aspirant I met. If we choose to live a life of a lay person abundance is part of our life. If we’re to make the prayer of St Francis of Assisi happen , we need abundance in our lives ( It is in giving that we receive …) but do not give only with the intention of receiving alone but to make another’s life better, that is where non attachment comes in. But do not be so unattached as to shun fortune when it knocks on your door. Even if it may not do you any good or you may not have the desire for it because you have developed to higher levels of spirituality, still there exists many deserving, suffering souls who need your assistance. To whom you can donate what you may not need. It is the healthy balance of the two aspects in your life which leads to true happiness; in my opinion they’re like the two parallel lines of a railway track. In order for the train called life to run smoothly we need both lines intact & parallel & thus life would progress to great heights. It’s our duty towards our selves to live a good life, not to wish for a long life to be a sick centenarian. I do not believe in quantity but I’m a firm believer in quality. Therefore I choose a short but a spiritually rich life filled with good health, abundance & service towards others. This reminds me of the prayer, “Lord give me the strength to change things which I can & the courage to accept the things which I cannot change & the intelligence to know the difference.” I can change myself but I cannot change others in knowing so I rest my case.

Thank you so much for the positive feed back which I receive from all of you it really makes me happy to read your views & your experiences in life. I feel truly blessed to be here with all of you.

Wishing all a wonderful week,
Love, Joy & Peace to all,
Asha Perera

Love & Compassion Beyond Borders

This is a place for like minded people to meet & express their views on life.

It is especially meant for people who believe in practicing loving kindness for all regardless of ethnicity, religion & continents. Let’s not let oceans or otherwise divide us. Hence the name “…beyond borders” let us all unite for the cause of compassion for all beings, from all over the world. And not only talk of it but practice it in our daily lives, by performing random acts of kindness. Thoughts are a very powerful means of blessing others as well as our selves. The people who have realized the power of positive thinking has come up with many books on this subject similar to the famous book & DVD “The Secret”.

So let us all unite as one & carry on this mission we are here for, that is to spread love to all beings. As Mahatma Gandhi said “Be the change you wish to see in the world…” or “Be the love you wish to feel in your life”. So let us change the old thought patterns into positive ways of doing things. When we hurt others with our thoughts or deeds we actually unknowingly hurt ourselves too. After all we’re ONE. So let us practice the gentle art of blessing everyday.

Please feel free to post your thoughts, views & blessing requests. Also please note that any sort of abusive & rude comments by members will not be tolerated & the Admin. Team, has the authority to remove such members/remarks without notice. Please think of this as a place to share & care for each other. And also to learn & evolve into better human beings.

I welcome you all with much Love, Light & Peaceful Blessings to this group.

  1. Asha, I agree 100%! Many of us on the spiritual path have a deep multi-lifetime cycle of experiencing all the “bad’ that comes from the selfish pursuit of money as a goal in itself. We are deeply scarred within our souls DNA. So we find it very hard to accept financial abundance in our lives. This is problematic because acceptance of one kind of abundance and rejection of another kind is impossible. If we reject it in one area, we are rejecting it in all areas. So there is a lesson there we really need to learn. We must shift our mindsets, and forgive ourselves for feeling how we do about abundance…and then allow our selves to accept and embrace the concept that we actually really do deserve full abundance in our lives as a reflection of who we are, not as a reward, not as something we do selfishly…but who we are that enables us to fully be what we desire to be…so that we may do our work to its fullest too.
